Barbara is a C.R.N.A. (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) and a C.P.C.P. (Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional). She obtained both her R.N. and Anesthesia degrees in Boston, Massachusetts. Since relocating to San Diego in 1985, she has been working as a Senior Nurse Anesthetist on staff at a major medical center in San Diego. During this time, she also worked as a Nurse Legal Consultant and Expert Witness in the medical field of anesthesia while obtaining a degree in Healthcare Administration, graduating Cum Laude from Chapman College in 1991. She trained in permanent cosmetic tattooing in 1999 and opened her business at that time.
During her anesthesia career, she has worked extensively with plastic surgeons both here in the U.S. and Mexico through various volunteer organizations and has studied art at local community colleges. As a Senior Nurse Anesthetist, she has administered numerous anesthetics for all types of surgical procedures and patients including many burn victims and cancer patients. Her extensive background in medicine along with her avid interest in art and makeup enable Barbara to provide her patients with the highest quality of services.
While working as a Senior Nurse Anesthetist, Barbara has been very involved in the teaching of both anesthesia residents and other nurse anesthetists. As education has been an integral part of her profession, she firmly believes that it is important to educate the public regarding the field of permanent cosmetics. She has given many presentations and talks on this field to various organizations. Most recently, she spoke to over 180 dermatologists at a major dermatology conference in La Jolla two different years.
During the past 10 years, Barbara has been performing permanent cosmetic and medical tattooing in the La Jolla/ UTC area. Her areas of expertise include eyebrows (utilizing simulated hair strokes), eyeliner and lash liner, lip liner and full lip procedures. Her specialty areas are medical tattooing and corrective tattooing including scar camouflaging and facial restoration for burn victims, and areola and nipple restoration for breast cancer patients who are status-post breast reconstruction.
Although she never aspired to be a tattoo artist, Barbara has discovered a most gratifying and rewarding second career. While a tattoo can change a person’s looks, Permanent and Corrective Cosmetics and Medical Tattooing can change a person’s life! |
